A balanced five-colour palette ready for stitching.
DMC 4145 Sand Dune is a variegated thread with soft sand and neutral shades. The colour changes give an embroidered area subtle movement without making it look busy. This makes the thread a lovely choice for natural motifs and calm backgrounds. A digital display may simplify the gradient; the physical skein shows its true rhythm and precise nuances.
Use DMC 4145 for sand, earth, wood, baskets, beach details and soft decorative lines. It can also be a lovely alternative to a single solid beige shade in a botanical or landscape pattern. Combine it with cream, warm brown, olive green, sea green or a muted blue. On dark fabric, the gradient appears differently than it does on ecru or white.
Do not cut the thread at arbitrary points if you want to preserve a calm gradient. In small individual cross stitches, the colour changes may be less visible than in a larger area. Do not choose the shade solely from a screen, and do not confuse the number with a nearby beige colour. If in doubt, do not start with a large section straight away.
Place the skein on your fabric first and view it in both daylight and artificial light. Embroider a sample row using the same number of strands and the same stitch as in your pattern. This lets you see how quickly the shades change and whether you like their order. Keep the wrapper band with your leftover threads, so that you can be sure to find DMC 4145 later.
